Procrastination 101
Got a list of assignmnets due? Not feeling like doing them right now... or ever... I feel you!
My level of procrastination is legendary. No one ever expects me to have my assignment finished until the night before it is due. From years of training in staying up late I have taught my body to survive all-nighters and to even function normally during the day. To prepare my self for these long nights I followed these simple steps:
- Get an understanding of the minimum number of hours you can finish the assignment in (so you know when to start)
- Stock up on food so you can snack thoughout the night
- Drink lots of water so you have to take lots of bathroom breaks (might even pay to keep a drink bottle with you as you work)
- Always keep your phone close by for conversations with friends
- Keep a list of movies and T.V shows to watch so you are never short of excuses
In order to keep my self fully occupied during assignment time, and doing no productive workat all, I have found these 5 simple steps to be very effective.
In recent years I have surrounded myself with a close circle of friends that I can contact about any T.V show/movie at any time of the day. I know I can rely on them to either respond right away or way later after giving me the 'seen' on Facebook. My hottest topics so far to keep conversation going with people include:
- Dogs
- Movies
- Family
Around last years mock exams I got a puppy! This has proven to be my most genius move yet because I was so excited and spent all day with her that studying went straight out of my mind (like it was there in the first place!) and my parents as well! This excuse has lasted me all year and has proven a very enjoyable distraction which doesn't result in the same guilty feeling that the others sometimes have. I still use my dog today and am always taking her for walks, practicing tricks or simply just cuddling and playing.
